Radio Station Music Library

Since the near shutdown of live concerts due to COVID-19, many of the surviving shows have gone virtual. RadioMusic helps your station fill the gap with three packages of live music kits, along with script, production and sales suggestions for your own Fantasy Concert. You can easily air a profitable and memorable on-air special that can beat your competition!

An important part of all successful programming is to feature the right songs. So before we started making our live concert kit, we researched airplay monitors of successful stations in each format and ranked the 500 most played songs in regular programming. Then we assembled commercial recordings for live concert versions of those same songs.

All these songs have good audio quality from commercially released live concert albums, with no bootleg or YouTube cuts. Also we edited out dirty words and dated comments like "Hello Dallas" and chit chat other than Thank You or naming performers.

Songs are automation-ready for easy import and include an Excel file with your song numbers (or names) for your music software.

In the Spirit of the Radio Classic "Fantasy Park", RadioMusic.com presents the Fantasy Concert Kit. All the music and ideas you need to build a "Fantasy Concert" for your Classic Rock, Classic Hits or Mainstream AC Radio Station.

You get helpful work parts for you and your talent to easily build the perfect "Fantasy Concert" for your audience. You can easily make a daypart special, or spend the weekend spanning the globe visiting concert venues around the world to present special performances from your core artists.

You get live tracks from the top artists of your format, plus staging and effects that create the illusion that your team is right there in the middle of the action. Pick the acts that fit your audience best and you're ready.

It's your opportunity to create a total "theatre of the mind" experience for your audience. Whether you do it live or voice tracked, with the proper frame of mind you can make this a big event for your listeners and sponsors too. Groups can "reunite" for your Fantasy Show, their tour bus could be delayed, causing a shuffle in the line-up. Bend your format a bit and allow your talent to have fun with it. Brainstorm ways to make this your concert event, "live from Fantasy Park" and make it more than just some live concert tracks played back to back.

Have your Morning Person or Team be the main anchors, handling MC duties from the "Main Stage", with your other talent reporting from the other stages set up at remote locations, or rotate through your talent, switching out MC duties every so often.

For your sales department, it's an opportunity to sell the "naming rights" to main and secondary stages, sponsorships to specific performances or hours. With premium packages, the client might even join your talent "on stage" to welcome the crowd and intro the act.

On your website, during the pre-promotion of the event, you can list those acts "scheduled to appear" and promote special "insider" information in your listener's club as the concert grows closer.

Or, open the "suggestion box" and have listeners tell you who they want to hear perform.

Put a countdown clock on your website. Clicking off the hours and minutes until the show starts.

Get a t-shirt shop to make up concert shirts or other memorabilia to mark the event. Give them away or sell them to benefit a worthy local charity.

Presenting this Fantasy Music Fest might just be the most fun you've ever had on the radio.

Suggested Running Instructions

Preshow Programming

1) Select the artists and songs that best fit your station. We suggest longer sets from "Superstar" artists and short (two song) performances from secondary artists.

2) Download Music and TOC spreadsheets to import to your music scheduler.

3) Build your concert clocks. Remember, this is a "live" show, so allow for longer sets of music and concert commentary and reports from your talent.

4) Standard scheduling rules won't apply. You might want to manually schedule each hour.

5) Decide what talent will be "manning" the venues. If you choose to have your Morning Talent MC the "stage" at Fantasy Park, and other talent handle the "smaller" stages,

6) Distribute Music Logs to your talent as far in advance as possible.

7) As the show approached, hold a jock meeting or conference call to walk through the special with them. Make sure they understand the concept, what they'll be contributing. Give them time to prep their performances.

Meet with the Sales Department

This event can be a nice revenue boost for your radio station. If nothing else, it's a good bet that nobody else with ads to sell has called on your local merchants offering participation in a superstars recorded live concert before. It's a new reason to call on merchants who have been resistant to visits by the same ol' sales people with the same ol' pitch for the same ol' station.

Meet with your sales department and assist them in putting together Concert packages that make sense for your station and technical facilities. If selling a sponsorship that includes the client appearing "on stage" as part of the package, make sure that you have the ability to accomplish that and know how it will be done. Nothing sours a sponsor's experience when expectations aren't met, to say nothing about your audience.

Very much like a "real" concert, there is money to be generated by selling "naming rights" to the event itself, the Main Stage and Secondary venues, as well as sponsoring individual hours. You might even consider allowing sponsors to join you on their stage to thank the crowd for coming and intro the act.

There are some extra opportunities that can be pursued to make this event even bigger. Some stations have come up with "concert t-shirts" or other memorabilia that can be sold to benefit a local charity. Other sponsorable options can include concert updates on your website in your listeners club. Brainstorm ideas with your staff.

Talent Breaks During The Show:

Since this is not standard programming, it's important that your team understand what is expected of them.

It's not "that was-this is" programming. The talent needs to understand that they are part of a special event. Normal formatics are now a backbone but this is time to add show biz, sparkle and magic to your presentation!

The best way to make sure everyone is on the same page with this, is to hold a jock meeting or conference call. Make sure that they have the music logs for the whole event in hand (not just their time as MC).

Emphasize the fun aspect of their part. Decide content of show of the "stage announcement" that they'll be making.

Mechanical problems with a performers "tour bus" can cause adjustments in the time of their appearance. Traffic and Parking issues and where the best food trucks are. "Parking is limited at the south entrance. You may want to come in the east side." Are great ways to make this "real".

The Fantasy Music Fest, Festival, Concert, whatever you're calling it can be as big as you want it to be. It all depends on the amount of planning and effort you put into it.

When it's all said and done, I'm sure you and your staff will agree that this is one of the best features you've every presented to your audience. And after COVID sequestrations, this can be big. (If you want it to be.)
